I seem to have a problem with my L190 he is just sat in the water not latched onto any thing. I can hardly see him move.

If I try and disturb him he barely moves!

I'm really worried I have tested the water and the results are
nitrates 5
Nitrites less than 0.1
Ammonia 0

I added some sweet potato last night and non of them have touched it!

Do you know what it could be?

how sad. sorry but I need more info to help.
how long have you had him? how big is he?
what other water info can you give? temp, soft or hard? how often do you water change? do you use tap water, etc?
what other food have you offered? how long has tank been set up?
have you treated for parasites (may be worth getting some plymouth discus wormer or ESHA 2000)?

Thanks for your quick response.

I have had it for about 2months.

He's about 11"

Cucumber algae wafers

Temp 24

Ph 7.2

50% water changes once a week

I'm not taking him out yet but he's not far off dead I don't think. I'm concerned for the large 27 and my small 330. As the sweet pot wasn't touch last night and they normally love it.

oh dear, well hollow tum suggests he has not eaten for a while.
you could increase temp to 26, this will encourage activity . I am assuming its at least a 4ft tank? Do you have an air stone or venturi or something to ripple water surface to keep oxygen high?
ph could drop a bit, add more wood, or some indian almond leaves (they are good for general health anyway).
Mine usally eat sweet potatoe after its been in the tank for a day or two. try adding a few peas with skin off. gives more nurishment than cucumber.
do you have hard water in York? of so add some rain water into the mix or RO.

The water is hard in york.

I have also added a internal filter near the top earlier this morning to increase surface movement as my external filter is set high above the water with no spray bar.

Should I just shove the skinned peas in will they float? I may need a lot to keep my big l27 happy!

I thought panaques do we'll in a high ph? I don't think I could add any more wood!

The tank is 4ft by 15" footprint.

Thanks again Irene

in case you had not seen the profile.
I have a large panaque not sure if L27 or L190 but of that type. I have had him several years now and he is a 5ft tank at ph 6.5 and 26 C. He is in with some young L114. I have also bred dwarf panaques. also ph below 7.

the peas should sink. I usually feed mine cooked peas shelled (only cos left over from dinner!) but I think raw are just as good. I also give them runner beans as I grow them in the garden.

I also use indian almond leaves a lot - buy bulk on ebay.
I use Ro re-mineralised so it is quite soft. I sometimes add rain water when we have had a lot like recently! I dont think they are healthy in hard tap water.

as he is big and you have only had him 2 months its possible he has hardly eaten since you got him and may have been ill when you got him. I guess I would treat with some wormer as he may have internal parasites. I do my tank once a year anyway, helps get rid of snails.

I have been doing daily 50% water changes after his death. I added the stated dose to of the dewormer after I had done the water change last night.

How long does it take for it to work?

Can I do a water change tonight?

Thanks mark
