Well,

I just went to feed my fish and noticed my 17cm royal whiptail half his body out of thw water, he was stuck between the eheim filter hoses, normally when i turn on the lights sometimes they go crazy swimming everywhere, he must have been stuck there since yesterday sadly.

So be careful for those who have filter hoses, they try to jam themselves between and id say that also go's for plecos..

Also on another crazy scare, the tank with some L260, i noticed one upside down and floating between a rock and driftwood and thought another one got stuck, i moved the rock and its like after 2 sec's he runs away haha, 2seconds is a long time if his in your hand not moving :) but his good.

Just disappointed on the royal really :(

Aww, that's sad news about your whiptail. :( Glad to hear your other fish is ok though. And thanks for the warning about the hoses. I never thought of something like that happening.

Hi all,

Very unlucky, but I would keep an eye on the water quality as well, because often fish become "stuck", because they are unwell, and are looking for a quiet place to hide.

Because this was found near the water surface it may possibly have been an oxygen issue. Some of the L numbers (Gibbis etc) have the ability to breathe oxygen by gulping at the surface and taking the air in via the stomach lining (like a Cory would), but even those species that don't benefit from this do the air gulping just before they asphyxiate.
Also on another crazy scare, the tank with some L260, i noticed one upside down and floating between a rock and driftwood and thought another one got stuck, i moved the rock and its like after 2 sec's he runs away
Probably sleeping, I've seen Ancistrus do this, but again I'd keep an eye on it.

I doubt the water quality cause others are fine, oxygen, ph everything is all good (i know i check everything once or twice a day, i know its alot but better to be safe than sorry) thats where he normally sits and breeds, lately they do go crazy cause im trying to get the fry to survive and have to put my hand in and move stuff around abit.

Plus i have had another one get stuck but more to the bottom and seen it straight away, but when its up you really dont pay to much attention cause your looking down on them.

But i know what you mean by lack of oxygen and when they go uptowards as if for air, i have seen that before on a couple of fish shops.

oh dear.
could he have died of something and then just went to filter intake in the current?
worth checking perhaps.
I lost some large fish once because i had a lot of plants and at night the plants take in oxygen. if its a warm night and warm water holds less oxygen, the fish can be at risk. but water is ok as soon as its light and the plants give out oxygen.
