hi all
i have a group of 5 claro's 2 male 3 female all adult but i am not getting any success in getting them to breed...i have just taken 1 of the males out to see if that makes any difference, not sure if the 2 males are competeing for alpha status or not...i have had 2 egg spawns before but both lots were ignored/left by the male(not even sure if they were fertile as very pale)...i keep the tank at around 22-24c regular water changes, plenty of wood and a few caves ..done the usual water change trick..but no joy...any ideas????

im no expert with these as have never owned or breed them, but id say that temp is too low, id imagine it should be up between 26-28c ???

my tank is at 27 degrees. eggs are yellow when first laid then darken.
these were taken within an hour of laying

I also use soft water, ph around 6.5.

depends on tank size id say, 100L below 1m 3 females, 100L and bigger 2 male and as many females as poss. i wouldnt be suprised if just the higher temp does the trick, feed them up for a few weeks at the new temp with less than usual water changes then try a large cool change dropping the temp 2-3c

Iv always had more success with a higher temp.
My tanks are kept at 28dgc but to induce a spawn i allow a week for the temp to come down to around 22dgc keep the water changes up for the duration of the lower temp and then boost it back up.

I only have the one male becasue when I had common BNs males fought. not sure about Claros. I guess best to try and watch them a bit. if the males are chasing each other then def separate them.
