Hi all,

I'm pretty new to the pleco keeping of sides and was a bit concerned when I saw this crack on the belly of the pleco. I bought two and both have this trait. Is it normal?
I am assuming it is and is relating to its breathing process?

Thanks,
John

That is odd, very odd they both have this split, I've not seen this before..Sorry can't help you.
Can't be right through or its guts would be protruding.Very puzzling indeedy.
Some one will come in with more experience the I..Hopefully they will have an answer for you...

Yeh, it is quite off as I haven't ever noticed any of this split on the bristlenose I used to keep. They both are still very healthy, constantly swimming and grazing. Very much in love with them. :)

Would be very interested to see other people's bristlenose' underbelly shots.

Happy to oblige

Same female as above, & as an adult below

& one of Pep, just for good measure..

Are you sure it is an actual split?, as most of mine have a line in that spot.I would say that it is normal...

Thanks very much for that Moo. I can now be kind of assured it is normal and nothing of concern.
I'm not quite sure if it is a split or not but when you look at the picture, its looks kinda deep.
Btw, very beautiful bristlenoses you have there. ;)

Like you stated, it is just normal, but your pleco just has a larger chest cavity. I would not be concerned. You also are correct, Moo has wonderful Plecos and her pictures are superb. Some say the plecos dance for her...I can only say she does an awsome choclate cake...cheers jk

hard to tell from pic if just thin skin so colour of insides show, or if skin is broken. if the latter i would keep a very careful eye on them, I have never seen this on mine.
