Hi all,
Brine shrimp you need to use when they are freshly "hatched" (BBS), or they don't have much food value. You really need to hatch your own, but it is quite a lot of bother and expensive unless you have a lot of fish to look after (probably breeding fish on a small business scale).

Bloodworm are very easy to care for, and will live for a long time in the fridge in very damp moss in a lidded margarine/Ice-cream carton or outside somewhere cool in a small amount of water with some dead leaves in it. Have you seen <http://www.plecoplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2936> picturs areon page 2.

cheers Darrel

Morning all,

Withthe warmer weather in Europe now, just get 2 buckets of water , fill with rain water and let set for 4-8 weeks. Leaves will fall in and some dirt etc and then you will get live food on mass. cheers jk

i would say yes, do not know what nasty critters you get over there. I also add some drops of water conditioner into these buckets even after rain, you just never know. cheers jk

Not mosquito larvae? Fly larvae is terrestrial not aquatic. Mosquito larvae is great live food, only risk if they go uneaten you could have mosquitos in the house.

Keep us updated, I have been following this thread as I would like to feed my zebs live food. But everytime I see a thread like this, I always leave thinking the risk is not worth it. But surely live foods have to be beneficial to fish over commercial foods.

Most fish will, bettas especailly like them.
Gotta watch out though, don't want to be a mosquito breeder. Not sure if west nile virus or dengue fever is an issue in your area but these are serious mosquito-transmitted diseases.

Dont know how many tanks you have, but I would keep 2 buckets per tank, but also keep in mind that this live food is only part of the diet as well. Make sure you give them variety, some flakes, some pellets and some mossie larvae. All fish like tetras, rasboras etc will gobble these up and thrive. cheers jk
