Hi everyone,

I am currently looking to purchase a HMA filter for use with my 4 foot aquarium in the house and also in readiness for use with my project (my fish house)

I have a small brick shed at the end of my garden and I am saving my money and getting bits as I go also.

I have seen the below 3 stage HMA filter on Ebay and wondered if anyone could give advice as to if it is any good/if there is a better system about.

I have about a £100.00 to spend obviously if cheaper like this one that's great but providing it is quality, I don't mind paying a bit more if a filter does a far better job.

Also I was wondering if the 3 stage is any better than a two stage? the only downfall I can see is that it will be a little more expensive when cannisters need changing having to buy an extra one but as I say if this means better filtered water for the fish that's fine.

Thanks.

Hi Mike, I have a 3 stage HMA filter which I prefer over a 2 stage as it helps take more impurities out of the water. I also have a 3 Stage RO filter as my water is very hard and needs more than just a HMA filter.

One thing to look out for is if the filter removes Chloramine as most do not state this is removed, they only say they remove Chlorine. (most waterboards seem to use Chloramine now insted of Chlorine)

You can buy Hma filters with a Chlorplus cartridge in ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-Pentek-ChlorPlus-Chloramine-Removal-Cartridge-/260987268421?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Fish&hash=item3cc40dad45 ) or you could just buy seperately.

I do not have these at the moment so add Seachem Prime (dechlorinator) to my water before adding to the tanks.

Regards Andy.
