Marine forums?

Hi

Have decided to take back up a marine tank and was wondering if any of you guys and girls on this fine forum have them aswell?

If you do can you recommend a decent marine forum - like this one?:woohoo:

Or somewhere to get good advice from. My lfs are fantastic help but still point me towards the internet.

Have seen and perused a few but havnt joined one as yet?

A lot of members here also have/had kept marine tanks.

I could post them here when i get them- just thought it was easier on a dedicated website.

Really wanted to find out how people have set up their backgrounds etc, how they have et up their sumps- ie what do you have in it sand,live rock etc. Where did you place the protein skimmer etc in the sump or on the tank.

For Marines I have used the Berlin system on the rare occasions I have done a salt water tank.

I would not use a protein skimmer utile you have some waste in the tank around 6 months.

I would start from the point of having as large a tank as you can have, the most powerful power heads you can get and as much live rock as you can afford once the tank has setled down and is running well, the cleanup crew can go in.

I understand that LED lights are now being used for the growth of some corals, I would not trust SP corals to that sort of light.

Like most things people promote new and different theory's on salt water fish keeping so what was the gold stranded yesterday will be old hat tomorrow.

When salt water tanks first became obtainable in the early 70,s a good external filter was a must but now they are not some thing experienced salt water fish keepers recommend.

one of the main points is that with a fresh water tank you can mix fish and plants with no respect for the inhabitants but mix any salt water organism with some thing wrong and they pay corals will kill other corals inverts will kill corals fish will die with out a coral they need ect
