mixing L's

Obviously new to having a go at breeding so just wondered if different L's can be placed in the same tank. would they potentially breed with each other or is it more likely that they wont breed at all.

I currently have some bristlenose plecs and have just purchased some wild caught L134's which I have been advised have now been banned from export. I dont know what sex they are as they are still juveniles so am hoping I got a mix of males and females. I have a 4ft tank with an aqua one aquis 1200 external filter and an internal filter at the other end of the tank which gives extra aeration and creates a bit of a confluence in the middle. I am basically gonna put em in feed em up and wait an see if any magic happens down the line. I realise it aint gonna happen over night but they are so pretty I can be very patient and enjoy watching them grow. any advice on this will be most appreciated.

Bristlenose and L134 won't interbreed as they are different but the bristlies may disturb the L134s so that they won't spawn. Secondly as far as I'm aware the L134 are not banned :dk: but there are times when they can be difficult to get hold.

Personally I prefer to keep sepcies only set ups if I'm interseted in breeding :yes:

They should get on ok. L134 can get a bit teritorial give them loads of hiding places and caves. Your leopard frogs like a meater food but wil have a go at the odd pice of veg.

They wont breed with each other, you are ok there. Hypans and brisstle noses will be ok in my opinion with the right places to hide. I have 7 x L134's with a royal and a couple of L002's and 3 whiptails and a L114. I have bristle noses and longfins witha royal and sultans with no probs.

Thanks guys, that was helpful info. I have 7 tanks set up in all at the moment, but I am mainly into malawi cichlids, I do have some haps and lake victoria cichlids too, but when I saw the L134's I took an instant likingto the little fellas so decided to dedicate one of my 4ft tanks to plec/hypan etc. I have bristlenose plecs in most of my tanks mainly as cleanup crew for the algae. I was very surprised this week to see some pleco fry in my tanganyikan cichlid tank, I have a couple of bristlenoses in there and never thought for one minute that they would breed. I didnt think the conditions would ever be suitable for that to happen. There is no bogwood etc in there and the substrate is coral sand, decor is ocean rock and some shells and pebbles I found on skegness beach, so I thought the Ph etc wouldnt suit them too much. Obviously they acclimatised and like it in there more than I thought.
