What is the best way to move my fish from a 2ft mature tank into a 4ft new tank? I will be using everything out of the old tank in the new tank. I was going to take all the sand, caves, plants, filter and wood out and put them in new tank, leaving all fish in there while doing that, then take as much water as possible out to put in new tank, then move fish. Would this work? Would I need to bag the fish? Or would it just be like me doing a 50% water change?

It would be better to bag the fish or put them into a bucket, that way it will be easier to equalize them to their new tank...Everything else will be ok to transfer straight away.

I would

1 put fish in bucket with old tank water and maybe heater
2 Move 90% of the water
3 Add filters, heater etc
4 Put some of the remaining old water into another bucket
5 Move and rinse sand in the bucket, just to remove any debris as you don't want it all floating around new tank
6 move decor
7 Add some new water then add fish and then new water, make sure at right temp

Thats how ive done it in past, works ok

Thanks everyone. All done now, not as easy as I thought and it took hours but all fish are still alive! I missed out the cleaning sand bit as it was getting late, big mistake as the tank went cloudy but it's ok now. I would post pics but I can't find the wire for my camera  It doesn't look that great either lol, it looks so bare and I let my 7yr son arange everything in it (as it is meant to be his tank) he just chucked it all in I think. Got to do it all again later to move the fish out of my tiny tank into the 2ft!
