i was looking at 'james' planted tank' web page and he talks about MULM

what is MULM?

Mulm is another word for gunk, or whatever you may refer to the waste stuff you pull out of a filter. The brown-slimey stuff. Also could be used to refer to the stuff that collects over time in areas of the tank from biological wastes.
