I've had these for about a month, and found that they had spawned about a week ago. Unfortunately, they had predated the eggs by the next morning - probably b/c it's their first spawn and the eggs may not have been fertile :dk:

Good thing is that they did spawn and hopefully they'll spawn again....

Cool hope they do spawn again for you
do you mind if i pick your brains a bit regards your Kribs?
my old man likes these and is considering breaking down his 4ft community tank and re-doing it to house some. its currently sand, bogwood, big slate cave and lots of plantage.
He's looking at gravel, rocks and i'm hoping he'll leave some plants in as i know they'll like them.
Can i ask what tank mates you keep yours with and what are your water parameters?
I'm hoping to get him away from R/O water as our tap water is pretty hard with pH just over 7 but he's been keeping the community in 100% RO without added minerals or trace elements for just over a year now and his pH is about 5 :wb:
All my tanks are getting 50/50 though i've recently been changing to 3-1 in favour of Treated Tap as the pH is still a bit low with 50/50
Oddly you'd think that 50% water with pH 5 and 50% with pH 7 you'd get 6.5 not so :dk:
Cheers

Kribensis are easy to breed and can live in varied water parameters. I used to keep a pair in a 2ft with untreated tapwater and they spawned every month. The males can get abit nasty if they choose to so be warned. I think a 4ft for a pair of kribensis would be a bit of a waste.

Thanks, Irene!

Terry, my pair are from a group of 7 and when they paired off, I put them into a 10G tank with the cave, some fine dark gravel, java ferns. Temp is 79*F, filtration is a sponge filter and a box filter (which seems to be enough for the pair given the water change schedule I keep), the TDS of my tap water is about 150ppm and I'm not adding any DI water to this.

I've been feeding them cichlid pellets, live mosquito larvae, frozen bloodworm, occasional white worm (I don't have a large culture of these, so they are a treat.)

One thing I will say - even though most sites say use flowerpots, mine didn't seem to like them. Once I added the cichlid breeding cave she is in, they took up residence within 2 days and spawned there within a week. I purchased these from an American website http://www.southcentralcichlids.com/ and hopefully you can find some made locally. If not, I bet they'd ship to the UK.

Other sites I've looked at include:

cool thanks for that, i don't thnk he'll be looking to do any breeding, will mostly just be a small community of them, they may pair up but they won't get any special treatment to encourage spawning.

Kribs are really easy going, when it comes to tankmates jewels, convicts & boulivian butterflys are the sort of fish you want to house these with.
Another thing if you where to consider breeding, this is one of few cichlid species that the female chose's the male not the other way as usuall so more males are the key.
I used these as caves.
