Male or female

There's another in the tank much smaller which is deffo a male and has been breeding this one is a lot bigger and seems to have developed a darker orange lip and a ring of bristles around the head but not the usual mop of them like a bn male normally does. This also seems a little fatter but none of the females I've had in the past have ever had even half bristles.

Yep sub dominate male, See the red "love" patch on his head? 99% of the time it is only the males who get it when they are ready to breed...

That was my thought too but why would he be sub still when he's been on a tank on his own (no other plecs) for well over 12 months now.

I've only just put him in with the other male as I'm moving tanks around and clearing out some stock/breeding pairs. (considering selling both the males in this holding tank not sure yet though)

Think he just never progressed to full male as he was in a tank solo ?
