new awter storage

hi,im setting up new water storage for my tanks.got feed up with the algae in the old tub.the new one is blue and won,t let any light in.
in the past the 60 liter container had bird seed in it for around 2 years, i have cleaned it as much as i can.is there any thing i should add to the new water thats in it just in case i missed a bit?
ive got an air stone running in it to and just about to go and get a heater for it.

Keeping light out will help, but it's going to grow a bio-film in time. Try to design your setup so you can remove the barrel from the system for cleaning once a year or so. Plumb in a bypass if the tank will be difficult to get at or out.
