I picked this guy up last night from a local breeder. he has been proven fertile and plan to use him on a new Jin Kang project in the near future. He's only about 5" SL right now and I think has mad head potential. I think once I get him weaned off live and onto Grand Sumo/Massivore he'll really bulk up!

Pardon my usual Stanley camera skills...

One month update!

Well, he's been one month off of feeders, His head is really starting to pop, faded a bit more. Body hasn't really shown any color improvement, but fins and tail have colored right up. I'm afraid my photo skills haven't improved much either...:wb:

A Jin Kang is a cross between a flowerhorn and a blood parrot. which displays the head and coloring of the flowerhorn and the face and body structure of the blood parrot. I'd like to breed him with a Deep Red blood parrot with hopes of eventually creating a dark red short body, Fat headed monster. It's an aquired taste i guess, but works for me. :)

It certainly is, agree with the monster bit though.

That's what I love about a forum, its a place for people to express different ideas and opinions. Honestly, Darrel, when I first came to Asia in '99 I looked at these hybrids and said "NEVER", but as time passes and I learn more about the production and significance (feng shui etc..) of these fish, the more I find it fascinating!
Cheers

Hi all,
Hi Stan, no offence meant, but it's certainly different, and I definitely prefer him to any fancy Goldfish.

cheers Darrel
No offense taken Darrel. Think of him as a fancy goldfish that tries to eat you every time you feed it!!:lol:

I don't understand why people symbolises these fish as Feng Shui fish? I can understand using water and fish in Feng Shui but saying to keep particular fish will bring you luck....I reckon it is just wrong.

The art of Feng Shui has been around for more then thoursand of years and these hybrids only become popular in the last 10 years or so. Did all Feng Shui masters gathered to declare Luo Han and classify them as lucky fish? I think they were labelled as such to make a few more dollars from the original breeder.

Anyway I'm not against people keeping and breeding Luo Han but label them as Feng Shui fish is what really annoys me.

Cheers

I agree with what you're saying mate, but i do live in china and everything here is either good feng shui or bad feng shui. I don't know if luo han or BPs were designed with feng shui in mind or if the feng shui significance happened after, but the simple fact is that these fish are important to the discipline. Of course it's all money making schemes lust look at what the builders of the china bank tower on HK island paid the feng shui "master" to design that monstrocity.
