I set this tank up a few days ago. A friend got me the sand from the river in his city as he drove down to mine; the shells online from an auction, and the wood from a stream! Peacock moss is attached to the wood.

This was the tank last night -

And today I did 2 small rock formations. I was told the fish need more hiding space as they can get quite agro.

Hi all,
I love shellies too, in fact I can't think of a little Cichlid I don't like. Do you know if Hydrocotyle grows all right at high pH?

I've been trying to suggest some plants for very hard water for a Tang. keeper (shellies as well - N. multifasciatus)) on another forum, and after Java Fern, Anubias, Vallis and Ceratophyllum I'm really struggling.

cheers Darrel

Yep, river with brackish water where the sea meets the freshwater.

The Hydrocotyle should be fine in harder, higher pH water. It seems quite happy in this tank - but the fish haven't had the opportunity to uproot the plant yet ha ha ha.
