Had an exciting call from my partner this morning to inform me that my new Motoro ray had arrived along with an L168 and an L200 :woohoo:

Another call around lunch time informed me that my youngest Bichir had suddenly died and was lying on its side in the middle of the tank

Could this be the result of the Motoro?
The Bicher had been doing so well and was eating liking a pig - i had him a couple of month - so sorry to see he's gone as i dont see them that often :-(

oh dear,

how big is the ray?
The ray is around 5-6 inches at the moment - have you heard of anything like this before? There wasnt any bite marks on the bircher, so unless it got stung by the ray....... Wouldnt have thought the ray would've done anything considering he was only in the tank a few hours...

i'd be amazed if it was the ray that killed the birchir, not impossible i suppose, but very doubtful i think

My thoughts too, especially if the guy had just been in the tank an hour or so!
So theres a hidden killer in there somewhere......will have to keep my eyes peeled

When I first got my bichirs I was informed that the young albinos are notorious to eat themselves to death. However unsure whether that was the case with yours. but something to consider.

The ray has a sting that is defensive not predatory.thus it is not designed to kill just to scare away after all why kill any one you want to pass on how nasty messing with you is?

I would say check all your water parameters and your general tank conditions
