Hi all, new to this site. Had my tank approx 2yrs now keeping a variety of goldies fancy's shabunkins, fantails, and plec's(4 Hong kong, 7 common plecs, all about 1" and one around 6-7 inches). Sadly lost a few just recently due to dropsy diesese. Now trying to sort it out using water changes and interpet anti internal bacteria and tetra aqua safe. Any advise to cure this would be greatly recieved, also i have looked about but im under the assumption plecs dont suffer from this dropsy but may bloat out, and to fish it not contageous but caught only from the water, pleasecorrect me if i am wrong. I have checked water quality and ph and nitrate are a little high but not dangerously so.

Hi again and thanks in advance

Dan :hi:

Hiya and welcome :hi:

It would help if you could give exact tank size and water readings ammonia, nitrite and nitrate etc if possible and tank mates. This information will help people to try and work out what is going wrong but it is usually a sign of something not right with the water :wb:

Hi all, thanks for the welcomes. I have been keeping the plecs and goldies together for a long time now they all live very happy together. Sitting at room temp, tank size approx 2ft tall 2ft deep 6ft 2" wide sat on a cabinet. Did a good water change today, and added some help in the form of the internal anti bac liquid.
Within hours the nitrates have reduced dramatically as they were a little high, and all fish seem to be happy, eating and active. I have removed 2 of the fish into a seperate smaller tank that i belive to be of poor health at this stage so wait and see. Will continue to monitor all levels (need to restock on kit's as i have run out, hence why i cant give you more exact info at this stage) but also water changes over the next couple of weeks.
All plec's are normal, little ones are jumping around the tank and bubble bar as always lol, and my large one is chilling as normal, i will try and get some pictures up in a while as i would love for all to take a look see what they think of him,and also a more precise account of the breed/type(was brought on the free ads only a couple of months ago,and in quite a small tank with little info on him) is the photo uploader easy enough to use on here, sorry new and not looked around yet, so lazy

Thanks to all

Hi, welcome to the site.
Pleco's aren't supposed to be in cold water set ups, they are tropical fish and although they may appear fine in these set ups, its not good for them in the long run, maybe you'd be able to set up a proper tank for tropicals where the plecs could live and thrive

Hey Dan, welcome:welcome:

It would be cool if you could get some pics esp of the 'common' plecs to confirm an id:yes:

The usual common plecs like Pterygoplichthys pardalis need a temp of 25c+ or more whereas the disjunctivus needs a temp of 22c+
