Ok ive completely forgotten where I read it and have been meaning to post about it for ages. I read that you shouldn't have a black substrate if you haves corydoras. It didn't say why so am wondering if anyone else has heard this?

Can't say I've heard that before, although I've seen certain corys go very dark in colour when on a black substrate.:dk:

Hi
I am speaking from my personal experience. I have tried various colour of sands in my cory tanks, in my opinion, bright orangey colour(in my case,Sudo or Gex brand buttom sands)sands brings out the colours of the corydoras the best. White colour is one big disappointment. The corys turn out to be pale looking. It could be the reflection of the sands colour into the corys body or could the corys actually change their body colour to blend with substrate? obviously,i am no expert:)With orangey or red colours, the corys colours often appears rich. I have never tried black, but did tried gray colour substrate, the results isn't too bad.

Hey foti
Corydoras are cool catfish. They do swim around in 'packs', the more you have the better as long as you have enough space for them to thrive. Like plecos, there are lots of different ones and all vary in how shy they are etc etc. They don't generally suffer from bloat, not in the same way plecs do. Ill find some articles for you tonight.

Thanks Mark:)
All your cory photos look very good, so you must be using the right substrates lol.
Mine are on a mixture of normal coloured sand and 20% gravel and they look ok as far as colouring goes.

There is a black substrate that was used for sand blasting that people used in their tanks that was a glass byproduct. It was very sharpe and would take the whiskers off of catfish in short order. It looked great in tanks as it was a shiny black. Any sharpe sand is bad. It should be a river sand which is smooth.
