hi ,
I have recently re-scaped my 54g trigon and want to change the backround to black. Presently I have the store-bought plastic jungle scenery stuck on- you know the kind. :yuck:

I want to change to black, but wonder if the 2 hob's (Aqua clear 70 & hot magnum) will scratch it up as I will be removing them to clean at times.

I don't want to deal with the hassle of painting it if it's gonna scratch and look crappy afterward. I can get the black plastic tank backround stick on ... but it looks shiny, mirror-like . :eek:hmy:

Has anyone used paint with HOB's without problems ?

advice appreciated. :)

Yup, but then I don't move them around a lot.
Most paints are pretty tough, if it'll stick to the tank it should hold up to the HOBs.
Most any black paint on the back of the tank will look a bit mirrory, that is after all, kinda the way you make mirrors.

Hi,

Never used a HOB filter but read this and just had an idea.

Why not first paint the tank and then cover it with something to take the knocks and bangs from the hob? I'm thinking along the lines of a thin piece of hardboard taped into place but with more thought I'm sure its possible.

I have black background on my trigon, I took out the Juwel black rock like stuff that was on the inside as I needed to fit heaters, filters etc as I dont like Juwels filter system, with the black backing it does indeed look mirrored though, personally I wouldnt paint my tank :/

Hi,

All my tanks are painted black and I love the look. Never had any problems with the paint either and I just use a durable emulsion. Easy to apply, cheap, a far superior finish and is easy enough to scrape off if you decide you want to at a later date.
