I have a planned power outage in my suburb for one day this week from 9am - 2pm while country energy works on some stuff. I don't have a generator or any battery operated air pumps. I have a 6ft,4ft and 2.5ft tank in the shed and a 4ft inside. I was just wondering if this will be a problem?, is there anything I should do to prepare? Even though I will be at work! Missus should be home but. Any advise would be appreciated.

what sort of filters do you have? that tanks can be kept warm with blankets or just floating a bottle of hot water in it. the risk is teh bacteria in the filters stop having water moving inthem and the bacteria die, they then become toxic and when power is restored it poisins the fish.
once when I had no generator I took all the filter media our of the filters and put in big buckets and stired it up every half an hour and kept it warm by adding a bit of warmed water. its was a lot of work but did the trick.
dont feed the fish the night before the powercut or during the powercut so they produce less waste until filters all established again
good luck.

no worries about heat..it is going to be about a 35 degree day! filters are canister and internal power filters on each tank except the 2.5 ft which is only internal power filter.

The bacteria in the filter media will be the biggest problem and then perhaps oxygen levels for the fish.

I agree with what Irene says about the media in a bucket, the best thing to do is having a battery powered air pump in their with them. Just try to keep maintain surface agitation for both the filter media and fishes.

Once the power is back, do a good water change on the tanks.

when we had a power cut I sent hubby out with petrol can to fill up, so he went to garage, filled the can, then thought while he was there he would put bit in the car.
that prooved VERY EXPENSIVE as he then sudenly reailsed, too late, it was a diesel car!
