Hi All,

Unfortunately, my first post will be about my sick peppermint that I bought 4 days ago. I have found her like this and not sure what it could be. She wasn't like this when I first got her.

My water parameters are fine.

Could it be from fighting or a disease?

That last picture shows some irregularities just above the stomach. Not sure if it's related.

Any information on what it could be and what treatment I should give her would be appreciated.

hi Doug, not sure what is going on, sorry, perhaps others may have seen this before. I see the discoloration on the first pic, sorry I don't have an answer. Could you possibly post how often/how much wc's and your actual water numbers , saying it is fine does not actually give members something to work with. Good luck , hope she makes it.

Hi All,

Thanks for the responses.

Water paramters are as follow:
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Nitrate: 5ppm

Water changes are done weekly.

She's in the community tank (with plenty of hiding spots) with a pair of adult size orange spots, 4 x juvenile peppermints, 8 x juvenile longfin bn and few tropical fish.

Could it be because of the the transportation? The guy who I bought it from did take a while to net them out.

I'm quite worried about the scarring/patch just above her belly. I haven't seen anything like it with my other catfishes.

Not feeling so confident in answering health questions after losing both my sultans to an aggressive disease I've never seen before but if she were mine I would either observe and see if it clears up by itself or use some waterlifes myaxazin. Its very safe to use for all plecos and is an antibacterial medication.

Others may advise Melafix and or Pimafix but I never had much success with it due to stocks available around here usually being close to expiry date by the time I get them.

Brengun, thanks for the reply.

I initially thought she got burnt from the heater but my heater is easily moved so shouldn't wouldn't have issues being wedged in between it.

As a first response, I have isolated her in a hospital tank with Melafix and Pimafix. I hope it works.

I'm still puzzled as to what could have caused such damage. I'm taking out fighting a factor as the damages isn't what I expect from one. I'm thinking more of a bacteria infection or some sort of disease.

In any case, I will get a bottle of waterlifes myaxazin for future emergencies.

Looks nearly exactly what you often get in plec fights. Its from another plec rasping onto the back. Bacterial infections typically will have at least some degree of redness associated with it.
