Hello, and thanks in advance.

I'm a new member here, and have recently gotten back into fishkeeping. I have a planted 55G community tank that has been up and running for 5 months now, and I'm keen to add a L- number pleco. Because of stocking, I don't want anything too big, aiming around 10-11 cm or so.

My current short list (based on size, availability at my LFS, and pricing - I'm in Australia, and fish cost a lot more here) is:
- L201
- L129
- L134 (most expensive on the list)
- L340

Of these, what you you guys recommend as being your favourite, or the least shy/most fun, or the least bioload, etc?

Thanks!

Thanks mate.

Tank is 90cm x 50cm x 50cm, 225L. Running Oase Biomaster 600, with temp around 25.5 degrees.

Current stocking:
14 green neon
6 fivebanded barbs
5 sterbai corys
5 kuhli loaches
3 mollies
1 pearl gourami
1 male betta imbellis
1 chocolate lyretail killie
1 poliaki killie
1 riffle shrimp
Approx 12 cherry shrimp

To ny reading, the L340 maxes out around 8cm, the L129 around 8-9cm, the L201 around 11-12, and the L134 around 11-12 also (with both the 201 and the 134 being slow growing).

Yeah, I do like the look of the L397s and my LFS has them in, but they eat wood and I want to keep my driftwood intact (and also avoid too much sawdust poop!).

They might be getting L010a (red lizard whips) in the next couple of weeks, so that could be fun.

I'll have a look and see if there any any lemon blueyes around - they're a type of bristlenose, right?

Otherwise, maybe the L340 is the one for me. Small size, and they look pretty cool.

Tbh, probably just need a 2nd tank full of plecos...sigh

your very right the blue eyes are a type of bristle nose and with the L 397S they do eat drift wood they need it for the ligum in there tummys but wont make that much of a mess just a little bit they like letus and cucummber and brine shrimp and blood worms u can get wood chips in some foods for them the L010S arent all that nice the L340 S are better more tanks the better u can all so do the red bristle nose they are very nice and easy as to breed the fry sell for a fair price u could make some $$$ with them same with the L397 S given they are hard to get

Juet consider the dietry requirements of whatever pleco you get, some require a lot more protien in their diets than others
Lemon blue eyes are smaller growing than some of the others
The $$$ you want to or are capable of investing in the fish is another consideration
Pepps you can get for about $15 up from about 3 cm
134s are more in the $150 to $190
340s are about the same
129s about $60 mine hide àlmost all the time til the lights go dim
Of all of them listed i probably would get 201s
