gonna breakdown the q-tank next week- want to also move the wood, slate and stones to main tank. Q has lotta snails and snail eggsnot on everything. Assume boil wood and rock first ?

Also, got 8 fish going in the main, will stagger 2 everyday, but do I also move the bags of clay biomedia from the q-tank 2 filters ? I do have a little room in the main tank filters , do I need to move over some biomedia or squeeze q-tank sponges into the main as I add fish ?

This is first time I have taken down a tank, Is it wrong to assume I need to move as much q-tank biomeida over to main to prevent mini-cycle? I am putting my other L128 into the main tank too.

any info/help is appreciated , Georgie

Hi all,
Should be all right, if you can run all the QT filters in the main tank I would, (as they are HOB's/sponge filters can you just hook them over the side of the main tank until you are ready to put them back in the QT?) Otherwise you just need to take some filter media out of the main tank filter and put that in the QT filter when you set the tank up, because the media will contain the right bacteria all ready your tank will be instantly "cycled".

If your main tank has a heavy fish load you would have to be careful that you didn't take away too much of the filter material, but you should be fine with your stocking. Having a number of filters make this much easier, usually problems occur if you have one big filter that does all the filtration for the tank and no back-up.
