Hi all

I am planning on setting up 3 dedicated tanks for possible L333, L144 and albino bristlenose plecs.

Is there a generic setup that is accepted for pleco's or do they have individual needs?

Can someone advise me on things like minimum tank size, undergravel filters etc.

Any good links or books that cover setting up a pleco dedicated tank?

Thanks.

Hello,

I have 333. My tank is 4ft, temp 28-30C, silica sand substrate about 1cm, caves of various sizes and sort, 1 external cannister 1200l p/h and one internal power head also 1200l p/h. Plants java fern and anubias only. Slate and driftwood etc. L333 are omnivors so meatier diet

L144, herbivours and need wood to munch on more veg based diet. Also 4ft tank, they do not need a current as such and do well at 25-27C.

The rest is learning and reading up on this site in all of the breeding set ups, tank photos etc Good luck...cheers jk

I agree with bigbird in that a 4ft would be ideal. If you go anything smaller than a 4ft, the 133s may get alittle cramped when it fully grows.
I have some 333s, 397s, peps, and various BNs all in a 4ft with an inch of gravel, heaps of driftwood and an Ehiem 2217 running the tank. Just make sure you have plenty of air if you are keeping heaps of fish and obviously regular water changes a must.
My suggestion is always go larger tank than you might need as it saves you out growing your tank too quickly.
If you are like me, it means you can fit more in !!!

Good luck

for the L numbers i have heard that larger tanks are better, most breeders I know use min 3ft tanks. I myself have never bred Ls but i breed a hell of a lot of bristlenose. I use either 2 or 2.5ft tanks with a sponge filter, 500l/h power filter, cave, driftwood and a smeer of gravel across the bottom. fresh bit of cucumber everyday and the odd bit of meaty food to condition them.
