Hi
Does anybody know the difference of male and females?.
I have about 10 in 6 foot tank about 4 inch+ TL and there is one that is darker(as in black) and the tail is shorter to the ends and has been since I had them. All the other torpedo barbs bother and chase this one around,as to chase for a short while then stop not as in chase to do harm to it.
I have seen this in other male and females of other species before, would this be the same thing I am looking at?.

Any input welcome and thanks.

A few times with mine I've seen behaviour that looks like breeding but nothing came of it. The differences I can see between mine are that the 'female' is bulkier, longer, with the least colour and different shape head (pretty sure it's not Puntius chalakudiensis). The 'males' are slimmer, more colourful and have slight trailing extensions from their fins.

I have 8, 6 of them I have had from very small fish, but the males are definitely slimmer, I wouldn't say there is any colour differences though. Apparently they need high temps to breed.

Hi
Thanks for replies I'm not trying to breed just thought it a bit unfair if I have 1 female and 9 males in the group.
They maybe chasing this fish because darker color to the others.
Will keep eye on it its not so much a problem at this stage.
