I have not used this type of wood before, however irrespective I would soak every piece in a seperate tank with water conditioner for at least 4-8 weeks. Similar to a Q tank for fish, i always soak stuff seperatly before adding to main tank. You just never know where this stuff has been or what it has been in etc. just my few cents worth. cheers jk

24 hours for me then straight in.

I have some wood that is similar if not the same and the only issue I had was it took a few weeks to sink so I had to weigh it down.

It got the white stuff but my Ancistrus made short wok of it.

I have been selling red moor roots for years now...Give it a wash and stick it straight in...It will need weighted down for 2-3 weeks...Mike is right it sometimes gets a white fungus on it, but its harmless and the plecos make short work of it

Hi all,
I think it is the bulb as well giving the pink tint, but that the wood could be different colours.

I think "real" Redmoor wood was drift wood from Indonesia (Sumatra), and that the original stuff was the roots of a tree something like Teak (which would be almost rot proof) and these roots were quite red in colour.

The wood is nice but I personally think the plants maybe hide it a little bit too much? Not sure what other people think. Depends if it is what you were trying to achieve, is it how you wanted it?

I have a tank with redmoor wood in and it had a little bit of fungus on but amano shrimp cleaned it and never had a problem since. It wouldn't sink but I used cable ties to attach it to the wire of the heater and it stayed in place. I assume it wont float now but left the cable tie on anyway.

I don't have many plants in mine and sits on kitchen bench. Never had to cut it , luckily does just fit the tank and sticks out top of tank but this photo doesn't show that.

I have not noticed colour changes apart from maybe a tiny bit algae.

It will be removed today :(
The kids and the misses said it didn't look good in there and
Ned my L081 has up rooted/dislodged it and its now floating around the tank.
I'll have to find a tall plant to hide the filter instead.
If any one wonts it pm me.

your tank at the end of the day. Wont be to everyone's taste but depends what you are trying to achieve. My bloke and kids could say what they like about my tank and I know what my response would be if I was happy with it.

Obviously you are bored with your tank as it is or was being already complete and didn't need messing with and all you could think was to add things which is sometimes a bad idea, not always.

Start a new project! I would keep the redmoor wood in case you decide to use it later, just let it dry out and store it.

I got stuck in a rut with my tanks being complete and don't want to breed fish so have moved onto reptiles.

Well I'm not bored with the tank, could spend hours just looking at it.
I'm just fed up with seeing the big internal filter. Did think about removing it and
and using an external one, but with the hinged hood i couldn't use one.
So it's lose the hood, or hide the internal filter. Went with hide the filter.
The wood didnt work so I'll try plants.
Good call with the reptiles, did think about it ages ago.

once the filter is removed if it is siliconed in is going to be a job getting back in if you are not happy. Are you unable to make a space for the pipes of the external?

Well I love my fish tanks and they always need a tidy so I just plan on better filters, maybe more fish and possibly co2 if I get better lights. Always liked reptiles, had rabbits, cockateils, budgies, zebra finches , dogs(was 2), rats, hamsters, gerbils, goldfish, and now dog, 2 fishtanks(was 3), 2 guinea pigs and a snake. Since going to the reptile place I had multiple plec syndrome all over again. Didn't actually nearly cry this time when I had to leave with nothing due to xmas eating all my funds. I like having clothes and food thanks :)

I do want to turn my empty 17 litre into a tiny marine tank but safer off breeding snakes I think. Just need to stay away from the cat and dog shelter too so decided on fish instead but then should of gotten another dog.

I totally get your troubles , I have learned to ignore stuff but was in my tank cleaning 3 times a day at one point especially when I kept common plecs.

I just try and enjoy my tanks now even with a bit algae, took a lot of willpower though.

its not siliconed in,it just hangs on the edge.like u i used to fiddle around with my tank,i,m sure my fish got grumpy at times.i looked into getting an external filter, even to the point off asking the guy at my LFS if i could borrow one to see if the pipes would fit.no joy,cos the hood is hinged, the hole hood lefts up,not just half of it.it can,t even be cut to fit the pipes.
so im after a plant to hide the filter now.
