just stick a fork in it mate, and drop it in! i just bought a bunch of cheap forks for my tanks. i prefer zucchinni, its not as messy. or blanched pumpkin (which will sink by itself once blanched! :)

would also suggest to use stainless steel . Another option is bamboo skewers then stuck under a rock. Also stainless steel bolts. Another suggestion is to add fishing wire to the tool you use ie spoon, then you get no hand wet. Remove cucumber after 12hours. cheers jk

Cucumber almost has no nutritiional value compared to zucchini, zucchini is a much better source of nutrients for our plecs.

I just use a fork, the 12 hour rule is ok on removing it but it really doesnt matter imo, i just leave it in there untill its all eaten, usally with in 2 days, but it always gets eaten completely.

I use these Korean stainless steel chopsticks...it can pierce the zucchini quite easily and is not sharp enough to hurt the fish...plus their quite cheap at any Asian grocery stores.

My 2 Cents all from experiance........
Dont use forks, once you see one of your prized fish impaled you will never use them again! Happens during fighting.
Dont use Fishing wire, plecs will get stuck in it and die
Do use spoons but buy good stainless ones, if you buy cheap stainless it will rust and polute the tank!

Do.......Enjoy your fish!!

I'm sick of digging out spoons and butter knifes lol

I have slowly put together a list of veggies that sink with no weight it's short lol
frozen green peas, fresh white potatos, fresh carrots ( if they're oldish and a bit dehydrated they don't sink ) And radish. There's for sure a lot more but I have yet to try and find out.

I do use spoons and bitter knifes here and there when I feed them veggies that won't sink.

Honestly I don't use anything to weigh it down. I just let it float. It's good exercise for the plecs and saves you having to reach in the tank to get the spoon back out.

U dont need anything if u use fresh peeled peas (remove pea husk and the pea splits in two) and blanched pumpkin none of these veges will foul ur water and pumpkin pieces can last for upto 2 weeks before u need to remove it, excellant substitute if your going on holidays.......
Both sink.....
Cucumber is prob if not the worst vege u can put in ur water.... dont use it ,eat it urself.

Lol this is a great thread, this question is always coming up :)

I too am guilty of the spoon collection in my tank :p

I used to use aquarium plant weights (lead i think) but after a while they became brittle and would sometimes break after multiple bendings, not going to use them again...

Foods I like to use:

Zucchini, Cucumber, Squash, Carrots, Frozen Peas(Sinker), Canned Green Beans (French cut for fry, Sinker), Large flake Spirulina

Foods I tried but didn't work so well:

Tomato, gets squishy and my plecs wont eat the peel, big lettuce leaves, the plecs had loads of fun playing around on them but turned into snail food as the plecs would only eat the stem of the leaf. Pressed algae wafers, they'll get sucked on right away but after a while they break up and just make a mess.

Foods I want to try but haven't yet: Potato, Yams, Pumpkin, Repashy <- Looks interesting :)
