Hi,

I had 6 Rosy Tetra. 3 Male, 3 Female. The smaller male and female died last week leaving me with 2 male and 2 female.
I was sat watching them this afternoon (TV was rubbish) and i noticed that the bigger of the 2 males seemed to be keeping a female in check.
I have a flat rock and the male seemed to be keeping the female by it. Everytime she moved when he went off he chased her back to the rock. Whenever the other male shows his face he gets chased back to the corner of the tank.
When the other female is out the larger male swims up to her shudders at her swims around and then chases the other back to the rock.
This went on for a bit until my daughter came and disturbed the tank.

What's going on?

Thanks

She doesn't look that much different really but i had an idea that that was what was happening.
I don't have the equipment to have babies and wouldn't the Clown Loach eat the eggs or fry?

If it is that they are getting ready 2 spawn I'll have a go at making a mop like in the issue of PFK.
Is there anything else I'd need to do?

do you have a spare tank or hang on tank ? Ideally use the same water for the spare tank and condition the females by feeding protein, then add the male. do you wish to breed them now ? cheers jk

I don't have a spare tank or hang on tank. I didn't plan on having babies but if this is happening then i'd like see what i can do for them.
Thing is, though, the female doesn't look any different other than she seems to be panting more than the rest of the fish.

Ok. Since the first post the rosies have been acting different again.
The smaller of the 2 females has completely detached herself from the others and spends most of her time behind a rock. The other female seems to be guarded by the 2 males. When she comes out she either gets chased back or is followed round.
Good to watch but weird in my eyes

The small female, that detached herself from the others, has now died :-( but on a good note i think I've found an egg. It looks like a bubble on the stem of a plant.
If it is a egg what should i do?
and
One of my ottos has got really big (looks fat). Nick from rareaquatics reckons it could be carrying eggs. If so what should i do about it?
I'm slightly worried as I've got 3 clown loach and i reckon they've eaten most of the other eggs if they are eggs.
