G'day all

I'm visiting my inlaws at the moment and was asked to check out the eye on one of their 7bars females. They said the injury was bad and she would probably lose the eye. Now i've seen some eye injuries in the past but none quite like this or this bad. I believe that she will lose the eye and if not treated now runs the risk of dying. They only have melafix which I believe it requires something abit more than just that. They treated with melafix a few days ago but didn't realise that you have to treat daily with it. So it hasn't helped at all. I've only got mela/pimafix, sterazin and protozin at home. So this will require a trip to the lfs. Just not sure what is going to be the best treatment.

The eye itself is very much pushed out of her eye socket. The whole area around the eye is swollen with fungus starting on the edge of the eye and "bubbles" showing up all over the eye itself. It's particularly nasty looking.

Sorry for the crappy pics, I don't have my camera.
As you can see in the pics, the white spots closest to her body are fungus and then you have the eye on the outer side of that.

We suspect that it was most likely caused from injury to the eye, as there has been a bit of dashing about the tank recently (new male added) and there are a number of large ceramic logs in there for the fronts to hide in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Bre

ouch, looks bad!
not sure on which fungus treatment is the best over there, but its gonna need some quick smart, just hope its not gone too far already.
i've had plenty of fish lose eyes in the past so i wouldn't be worried about that, just the fungus

primafix or something that contains acriflavin and malachite green or maybe even triple sulfa, primafix might be too mild though as quite serious eye problem. Loads of water changes too.

I'll have to have another scrounge around my fish room, Fungus aid has acriflavin and malachite green in it and I know I had some a while ago....could be hidden away somewhere :dk: I'll have a look in the morning.

She is still alive. We went over last night and treated with Protozin and Melafix. But we had to treat the whole 6ft tank because my F-I-L refuses to move her out to her own tank :wb: So all we can do is wait and see how she goes. Although the little bubbles do seem to have lessened.
