I seen one on youtube. A pleco and gourami tank. It looked very nice.
Although i do not have one, they look easy to clean if you have 1 solid piece to the bottom of the tank, same pros of a BB but just more natural looking

Pro:1. If you drop something in your tank it won't break the bottom.
2. Looks better than BB and you don't get reflections off the bottom of the tank. I think the fish like it too.

Cons: Ideally you should silicon it to the bottom so stuff doesn't get under it but then its there forever. I have some thin slate that I have been thinking of putting in my tanks. In the "old days" tanks were made with a slate bottom and had glass sides

In the house of gee
I had Kev,s old tank with the river setup and slate bottom. It looked the business. They only draw back I could see was when I moved and emptied the tank I noticed that there was water underneath the slate. When I removed the slate the water underneath stank which worried me a little

Apart from that the are wicked

Cheers

most of my tanks have slate bottoms, siliconed in place so no water can get under. The river setup geeman is talking about was slightly different as the pipework ran under the slate.

it is easy to clean, looks much better than bare bottom and doesnt seem to get the slime build up as badly as bare glass does.
