Hi peeps :hi:
Firstly the bn we have came from our breeding albino bns however it is black with nice spots and markings (i will try and get a picture) so this is why we kept it, we have it in a tank with some community fish.
will a solitary female bn drop eggs without a male in with her ?
We have always kept a pair, so we are a little unsure if a female will be ok without a male :dk:
Will it cause any problems with her when she is mature enough to lay eggs, will she just lay them or will she not produce any at all ?
and in your opinions will it be more beneficial to her health and happiness to put a male in with her ?
she is still quite young at the minute and we are only guessing that she is female but wanted to cover all the bases as early as possible.

Cheers in advance peeps

this is a picture of the bn in question its a bit bigger now but still has the same markings although i think there getting fainter, such a shame i think they will fade as it gets older

i was just reading a post in the pleco id forum about cross breeding bns  great post, i am now wondering what results i would get breeding this fish (as its parents are both albino) with another albino or common, maybe even a longfin

what do you guys think ?

cheers

hi there
i have kept a single bn female and never had any problems, i also bred abn's and the dad is really picky about when he wants to do it and often she seems to re-obsorbe the eggs in some fashion.
Hope this helps

If you breed with a common or another albino, chances are you will get a mix especially with a common, maybe even all browns. Not sure about longfin as never really looked into the breeding of them.

I would get it a freind. Even another female. But if you want to try breeding them. Its so much fun :), And i would get a small cave for the tank too.
