Hi, I am having real problems spawning any of my plecs that are from the Rio Tapajo's, I breed most of the plecs I have from the rivers Rio Xingu,Rio Orrinoco etc.. without too much difficulty by doing large water changes with cooler water or by dropping the TDS by 100-120ppm over a three day period but these methods don't seem to trigger my Tapajo's fish to spawn. Tank stats are TDS-180~210ppm,Kh-3~5*dKh, Ph 7.2~7.4, temp 28-30*c,lots of Bogwood, caves & a few Anubis. Pumps have diffusers to keep o2 levels high & tanks have lots of water movement. Can anyone give me any pionters or tell me where I might be going wrong. I have had sighns of spawning behaviour from my L262 pair but no result & my L134 ( half from Rio Tapajo's half from Rio jamanxim) have trapped female a couple of times but again with no result! I also have a trio of L 309 (1m.2f) that are now young adults that I would love to breed but im needing to find the trigger. I have been told by a friend who used to keep apistos that the secret to Tapajo's fish breeding is acidic water (Ph 5 or even lower) & addition of lots of peat, can anybody confirm this as I don't want to do anything to damage or worse even kill my prized & treasured beautiful fish. Any thoughts or advise will be gratefully recieved & hopefully someone might have the answer. Thanks for reading, sorry it's a bit long winded. Mike.:wb:
