Hi Guys/Girls,

I have a breeding pair of peppermints and I have been conditioning the pair for three weeks or more. The female looks very very fat (gravid I assume) and the male has taken residence in a hollow log that has both a front and back entrance.

The Question which I want some advice on is regarding the suitability of a cave with two entrances. Can a male still trap the female in this log? Should I remove the log and leave the man made cave in the tank as it has the one entrance only thus male maybe able to trap the female in the cave.

Also the female hangs around on the other side of the log, so in other words she is always in there with the male.

Thanks heaps.

Hi there,
As big John suggests. Block one side. If you want to breed these you need caves with one opening. Also, you mention trapping the females... They don't actually trap the females. It is important to have caves with one opening, so that the male can protect the spawn.
A post from "thegeeman" might me useful for you. The link is below. Good luck with it.
