Thought it might be an idea to have a thread of suitable mid/top swimmers for pleco tanks especially when breeding.

Ill start with

Harlequin Rasboras
They never venture to the bottom of the tank and don't seem interested when my bns have been breeding. Hardy little fish that aren't shy in any way and are no trouble at all.

I agree harlequin are good becasue they can handle fairly warm temperatures.

for hypan plec tanks you need ditherfish that can be happy at 30 degrees.

for lower temps I use:

Neon Tetra, Cardinal tetra, empora tetra, rosy tetra, endler guppies

Sometimes i fancy a dither fish for my hypancistrus tanks, but the only draw back i keep thinking of, is my hypancistrus are slow to venture out and eat, they like to wait till i'm gone.

Which gives more active fish time to eat all the grub first !

At the moment small hujeta gars....not sure if they will be good if they grow too big. Stunning fish though and good for keeping down an ever growing endler population
