Switching Tank Heights +/-

Just re-arranging my fish house to maximise tank space, having got a little stale with malawi cichlids and Discus, now moving over to Hypans again!

Wife groan groan!

anyway, I have amongst lots of tanks, 4 of which are 48x20x20 which i used for discus. Obviously hypans would be lost in that amount of tank space, and my thougts are towards having quite shallow tanks made, say 48x15 or 12 x 20 wide?

Other than fitting in the interal filters for height it would mean i could rack in two extra tanks where as now I can get just 2 in with this height as it is now.

does anyone keep there hypans in shallow tanks?

would be good to get some feedback.

regards

Dave

I think your tanks are okay. 12" high is a bit low IMO as you don't fill them to the top. I like having the extra volume in higher tanks. 15" would be better. I use 20" high tanks but I only go 2 high on a rack.

my L128 tank is 12" high, mainly because i can direct the flow for that 'stream' set-up. my hujeta characins like it aswell.

at times i do feel that the height limits you for what you can have in the tank but in my opinion it is fine for plec's.
