tank crash?

hi all,noob question, but can some one tell me what a tank crash is?:dk:
not sure if this has any thing to do with a tank that might be crashing,but over the last 3 days ive lost a betta and an apple snail from the same tank.:cry:the betta had fungus and what looked like fin root and the snail was smelling bad and fell apart from the inside out.
the galazy rasboras seam ok,touch wood.
my boy thinks,even tho hes only 5, the snail was dieing and the betta started to eat bits of it and that made him sick.bless him.
ive done a water test every day,readings the same all 3 days.
cant be the water board cos i use the same stored for 24hours water in the other tank,all ok there.
any ideas:dk::dk:

what are the water test results?
A tank/filter crash is the result of the bacteria in the filter dying, this can happen after treating with some meds, have you added any?
Effectively, once the bacteria die, you have a newly uncycled tank so will have ammonia and nitrite levels present.
if your readings are all normal still, then its not a filter crash

No meds added to tank.
Maybe it was the snail dieing??

surry to hear of deaths but apple snails only live till one year old. how big was he when you got him and how long have you had him? if he was quite large he could have just died, when they die they relax the muscle and fall out the shell. they are often eaten by fish etc but not seen any predators the worse after wards.
some betta (the exotic splenda ones, also have quite short lifetimes, approx a year, so when old age hits they loose immunity and get fin rot. so quite possible its not your fish keeping skills at fault.
PS if you want any more apple snails let me know and will post some when weather better.

Cheers Irene,the snail was big, just over 1.5" wide.he was just a little bit smaller when we got him.and the betta was one of my first fish, so he was old.

This is a pic off the tank.the strange thing is that is never looked as good as it does now.
I don't won't any more snails, cheers.the tank will be for galaxy rasboras only.
