I came home after a very long day to find my tank of L333 and L015's all upset.
10 out of 15 have died now, i have taken the survivers out and have them in a kitchen cook pot lol.
there on very close inspection was similar to small white worms crawling on the glass, largest being 7mm by less then .5mm and there were much smaller ones flicking through the water, the live fish have these buggers attached everywhere to them like tiny tiny parasitic critters.
ANY HELP PLS.
THANKS, MICK

sorry, what you do is catch all of the fish, salt them so to speak and then in the affected tank do a water change to 80%. Add some meds if you have them. I would set up a basic quarantine tank to start of with and not return to the ls to the main tank if possible. cheers jk

planarian worms are similar to what you are explaining
when in small amounts not harmfull but whe in a large scale
they are deadly to an aquariam best thing to do is large WC's
and they are brought on by overfeeding and if amonia has risin in tank
and gravel that has not been hooverd propa..
hope this helps

so sorry to hear that.
its important to keep in top of tank maintenance but even then you can have a disaster. like an oxygen drop in the night.
I keep just a few endler guppies, or tetra, in most of my tanks and they will eat most small worms and planaria before they become a problem. I do occasionally get an outbreak of flatworm, but I kill these with discus wormer.

Hope it wasnt all about the money mate.
NA man it wasn't all about the money, i am enjoying learning so much and getting into this pleco scene, it was just rather frustrating not being able to do anythig about it, and my attempts at rescueing them didn't seem to help any either.

brengun said rainbow fish were a go, i might have a crack at that. thanks i think i might run some companion fish in the tanks so that i can keep a closer eye on things

losses, sorry ,big-time

oh, man , you are still loosing more ,ughhhhh,so sorry , and NOW is the time to get tearing through the old threads , pics , find out exactly what you are dealing with and get treating....you are there ,you can see these things, we can't so you gotta do it , save what is left ,and if it is as you say , not about the money ,we would hope not, then know this all is unfortunately part of fishkeeping ,it's the ugly, depressing wanna give up part, but we go on cuz we love these guys, right , and we hope we can give them a better home then the lfs.(they make us smile, and how goofy we sometimes look , bent over, squinting into a dark tank ,just to get a glimpse of a spotted body or a striped tail unmoving because now they've seen us ) and some are lucky enough to keep the species going....so get reading and figure out what is going on with what you have left and try to save them..those are large losses and I would be getting no sleep till I got a handle on it , hope alone won't work here, they depend on you to find the prob and fix it for them. Find a pic of this worm , there are many on the internet... sorry to sound so rough, but you are the key to fix this , it's great to use the forum for problem sovling but your situation sounds so critial ,not sure you have time to wait for answers alone, so be pro-active , read till find this parasite , make sure the med is safe for plecs , add your extra bubble wands and let us know how you make out, we are rooting for you and your plecs.
Good luck, Georgie

RIGHTO, the conclusion i have come to is that i have had losses from tanks that previously had a lot of plants in them, rotting plants and too much gravel.
there are two tanks in question here, the first i ost my 333's and 015's from was full of the worms, it has been bleached and everything in it bleached and thoroughly washed, a filter from another tank a few months old has been put in it and it now holds my new l134's.
the other tank was just a holding tank for my albino's until i got my stands set up and my other ten or so tanks up n running, it was a bit crowded but has plenty of hidey holes, too much gravel and too much rotting matter in the gravel, suprisingly tho the tests all cane back ok.
all my ph's whether rainwater or tap/rainwater are at 7.6ph.
i have put a parasite killer tablet in each tank i have, tanks have been treated with stress coat, stress zyme and a multi cure fluoro green solution. everything seems to be ok at the moment.
i lost some nice big well developed albino's too.
does anyone know what an albino bristlenose is? like what l number? or what it is an albino of? or what diet it should be following? etc

all the rest of the menangerie are going great gunns.

I would be checking the tank water for ammonia, nitrite and especially nitrates.
If the water in the tank checks out ok, I would also check the water change water.
With a lot of rain around lately the water supply perameters may have been altered.

Remove dead fish. Do a 25% wc and see if the nitrates come down. Add prime liquid. If necessary, reduce all feeding to almost nothing and do 25% wc daily until things improve.

Don't go too crazy cleaning filters and gravel, just a rinse in dirty water change water for the filters and a vac to parts (not all) the gravel.

Do you think you are getting enough oxygen into the water with your filtration?
The top of the water needs to be moving for good oxygen exchange. Perhaps a powerfilter could help?

Hows the overnight temp of the tanks been? Sometimes if heaters arent up to scratch the tank can chill overnight and whitespot can start on the fish. Hard to see properly on plecos sometimes until its too late.

Yes I have rainbows in juvi tanks but for breeder plecs I prefer the little endlers. They are smaller and don't spook tiny pleco fry as much as the bigger rainbows.

BTW the albino bristlenose is just Ancistrus sp. with no L number. They eat wood and algae and veges. Algae tabs and a veg flake would be good and cucumber.

i have not checked the nitrate/nitrite levels alone. i have done larger than 25% water changes. the water i have been using is at ph 7.6.
prime liquid'? is that a bacteria liquid or a chlorine remover?
all of the tAnks right now at 6.45am are between 25-29 degrees c.
i think there's plenty of oxygenation in these tanks that i ave had dramas with, the latest one has a canister filter and spray bar, an air sponge and powerhead filter.
endlers? have you got a few of these companion 'barometer' fish for purchase?- rainbows also? thanks
