Not really got any new plecs of late, as its been getting harder to keep them all happy, and stop the silly little fights.
But my large group of Threadfin acara, have developed nicely in the 12 months I’ve had them. The Alpha male is a big bulky fish, with extra fin extensions. Which none of the others seem to have. He keeps the big group of 13 (+3 other geo's) in order. With the minimum of fuss, with only the occasional lip lock. Anyways enjoy the pictures. They are in a 5 foot tank and are all between 5-8 inches:hi:

Hi all,
They are Acarichthys heckelii, they are lovely fish. They are Amazonian and like soft warm water, they are substrate sifters "Earth eaters" (and A. robertsonii) they used to think they were closely related to Geophagus and Satanoperca, but they now think they are more closely related to Guinacara geayi (another really nice cichlid, and not quite so big). They don't get on very well with planted plants.

Apparently they aren't difficult to keep (not too aggressive) but they are difficult to spawn, I remember being told that they like to dig really long tunnels (a bit like a Gibby or similar), and spawn at the end of them. I can't remember who it was (it might have been Richard Longely?) had spawned them using a series of interlocking drainpipes as caves (although some people have been successful with a big clay pot).

cheers Darrel

Looking good, these the ones I saw as little babies? They are looking huge with great colours and the tank is looking good. I have just added some large dats and my water is struggling a little to keep clear, you having any issues with all those bad boys?

Yeah its those little fella's:yes:
I have had no problems with at all. And they turn the sand over all day long. I have had the very rare lip lock between a pair of them and thats it. And as you pointed out they had coloured up nicely:clap:
