Total Disaster

I'm absolutely gutted i got back from a two week holiday last week, i went to check my fish in the fish house and i found my breeding group of L134s dead.
All 8 of them where just floating on top of the water. After investigating i could see the external filter had stopped working. I can't believe this has happened i only now can i write about it. Before i went on holiday i lost 3 plecos to a heater failure, the heater just didn't turn off & the water was really hot i lost a breeding Pair of L333 & my male L260. I can't believe my luck i am now thinking about quitting the hobby & selling up, i have lost fish in the past but only to fighting or ill health. This is a total disaster.:wb:

so sorry to hear that, dont give up. maybe you can find/train someone to look after the fish when you go away.
I have a lady who feeds mine, but she failed to notice a heater failed while I was away last and I lost a tank of breeding zebs. -so I know how awful it feels.
I also have at least two filters in each tank so if one fails they have a good chance to survive till i get back.

I am so so sorry for what has happened, it is totally horrible.I can't imagine how you feel right now.don't quit, fate dealt you a crappy hand but all you can do is learn from it. we can only learn from or mistakes and you didn't make them.
Wish I could say something more helpful but I am sending you my warmest thoughts.

wow I am so sorry for your loss, it must really hurt. I would just wish that you stay with the breeding of Ls as that I am sure is what you love and enjoy as a hobby. As a suggestion, I also have a back up sponge filter in each tank of mine, just in case. Hope you stay with us. sorry again jk

so sorry this happened, total bummer. I too have woken to find a total wipeout , twice in past 5 yrs, it is gutwrenching. I can say after 2nd time ,it took me nearly a month to emotionally recover and re-start. I do know how you feel , but if you truly love plecs and i do , then only thing to do is cry , swear, create new swears, cry some more ,hit something(not the tank or person) and then forge ahead...start to rebuild what you lost, make a few changes if needed , great advice having 2 filters, and if you vacation/holiday often, find someone you trust to check on them and feed them . I don't have that luxury of having anyone to come check my fish , but i do have a friend who comes to dog-sit ,and i write what to watch for with the tanks ,so i kinda slip that in ..and tell him to call me if he notices a fish/tank problem .

It is easy enough to give up, but if you love them enough , and found this forum to help care for them , seems they are in your heart ..and there plecs that need homes so if you do decide to continue fishkeeping , do as i have had to do , learn from these tragic mistake and remedy them. If you have the will , we will be here for you ,just as we are here now. HTH

Thank you everybody for your support, i have been thinking over the last couple of days and have decided not to give up my hobby. I am going to sell some fish and put the money towards re-doing my fish house, or may be i might move it to my other shed. Time to start planning.
