hi guys sorry to drag up this topic again but really would apreciate your opinions on this
the filter that i will be using on my new tank has been running on my old tank along side the old filters for about a month. when the new tank comes and filled with water i should in affect have a matured filter ready to go. things im considering:
1) should i whack the filter on and put some fish in straight away?
2) if i put the filter on and only put a few fish in at a time, am i risking losing all the bacteria that i just spent a month building due to the fact that there may not be enough amonia to support it?

your thoughts guys? thanks

You will find that the external will have some good bacteria but not fully mature yet, as it has been sharing the bio load with the other filters...I would set the new tank up and install the external , switch everything on and monitor it for a 3-4 days to make sure all is running as it should be...At this point you will be ok to start adding some fish safely...The filter will not die back in a few days due to lack of a food source,so all will be well in that respect.

Morning, yup agree with DMAC. You have waitedthis long so wait for anither 3-4days to minitor then slowly add fish. Good luck and post some photos. Also as a hint, add some tank water to the other tank this also helps it settle in. cheers jk
