Hi all

I posted last week asking for advice on my baby b/n spawn and the best way to treat them whilst on holiday - I did all advised and instructed my fish carer to do what was said - I am so upset - he said all started swimming to the top and within a couple of hours they were all dead - except for the two survivors which he has put in the main community tank - they should be ok as they are an inch long now.

My other problem is my parent plecos have spawned again - I have been told by my carer that there is an orange honeycomb type mass floating at the top of the tank ( Papa is still in his cave and I guess the spawn have floated out) _ I am miles away from home and dont know what to do ?

Please could someone give me the easiest plan to tell my carer what to do to try and help my babies/fry? I will be home in a few days - I have told him to try and edge the spawn back in Papas cave gently and surround it with rocks so Papa can get out but nothing can get in as we have a Angelfish in there and he enjoyed eating a few of my first spawn.

He didnt clean my babay tank out when my babies died yesterday so have no option of a spare tank!

Sorry this is all a bit jumbled but I am trying to get this message on before I lose coverage again.

ANY advice would be soooo much appreciated.

Thanks so much x

Hiya, sorry about the disaster. Get a fry trap with an airstone and pop them in it, quickly! I can't help much more than that someone will post soon I'm sure goodluck and hope they survive.

I would say there is something wrong with the batch of eggs if they are floating? The advice about the fry trap is the best idea but I have never had a batch float before.

First sory you lost your babys, there will be 100's more to come so plan for the future.

others have stated about egg's floating and this does sound like they may not be viable.
the best way i find to save eggs is in a fine mesh fish net, Just place it so that it hangs into the tank you want good water movment.Filter inlet/outlet or near a airstone.

Sorry for your losses.

It sounds like your original batch died because of low oxygen levels, BN's like high oxygen levels and are one of the first fish to become distressed when the level drops and they will start hanging round the top of the tank. When BN's start acting like this, especially fry, then extra aeration is needed immediately.

I'm sure you will have plenty more spawnings
