I have a pair of Jade Eyed Cichlids who spawn basically on the rare occasions I let the water quality slip.
Weekly sometimes twice a week if I get the time I change 50% of the tank water.
My water changes consist of me siphoning all of the crud from the sand and stirring/mixing the sand up.
I am looking at setting some tanks up solely to attempt to breed plecs and wanted a little feed back on water changes especially given my experience with the cichlids: -
1) Is it important to siphon crud out weekly or just change water from middle and surface and siphon crud every two to 3 weeked etc?
2) Is it important to move caves bogwood etc which a lot of crud seems to hide under? or again is this something to do now and again?
The reason I ask is that I fear doing all this weekly will disturb any breeding.
The same with water changes do you ever miss a water change to see if by not changing the water plecs left alone will spawn? the reason I ask if because I have always thought regular water changes would be the key but wonder if this disturbs the fish too much.
thanks
