I change about 30-40% but because in the summer all my tanks are open top to keep them cool they evaporate about another 10%.

I do 30% once a week when not breeding or not in fry tanks when inducing spawning or in fry tanks I do this daily in the breeding tanks and about every second day in the fry tanks. lealea

My tanks are mostly large and lightly stocked, and I run undergravel filters and canisters.
30% once a week wc which may also include a filter rinse and gravel vac if it looks bad.
Seldom do I do more often unless the tank looks like it needs it, like if I have a lot of fry.

Quite often I will be naughty and take up to 10 days to get around to wc especially if its only 3 small plecos in a 3ft or 9 small plecos in the 6ft.

If I were to measure nitrate levels and tds I am quite sure some tanks could easily go 2 weeks or more between wc but testing takes time and its just easier for all the tanks to be wc on roster of once a week.

Hi all,
An approx 10% a day on tanks from about 30 litres to 100 litres. More on smaller tanks (up to 75%) or if I have a heavier fish load. I change more water in the summer, because I tend to use tank water for watering the plant pots etc. and the water out the water butt isn't that much colder than the tank water. So I usually just keep changing the water until all the pots are watered.

I could use the water butt water for the plants, but it either means wasting the Daphnia (in the waterbutts), or netting them out and feeding them to the fish before I water the plants. I've never had any problems doing this, although I wouldn't do it with tap water.

This video is a some what extreme version of the large water change. I'm a little bit more careful.

Not sure you have to let the fish in that video panic like that and flap all over the place.

I syphon mine out with a hose into the garden gradually until I think enough has been emptied, measure the dimensions of the empty space to calculate how much water treatment I need when re-filling. Add my water through a hose and and my mixed water treatment. Seems to work and fish are happy.

I sit and have a coffee while the water trickles out then into the tank. Black widows go nuts swimming in and out the water that trickles in, idiots. Just have to keep an eye on the hatchet fish as had to rescue one the other day. Also have to watch the dog doesn't try and run off with the hose but it sleeps most days now.

I have over 20 tanks running I also do 50% a week on most tanks and use water for my plants..But have a few fry/grow out tanks I do daily or every other day 30-50%

my discus gets 2x 40% there only dime sized and want fresh water at all times as I feed them 7-10 times a day. I really enjoy W/C's maybe I'm just crazy hehe

again thank you all for the replies its nice to see what others do for there tanks.
