So a few days ago 2 of my plecos died at the same time. I do not know what they looked like or anything my dad had found them. Then a few days later my last one died. I had noticed when I got home that it was very bloated I really didn't think anything of it he was acting normal sure enough a few hours later it was dead. Any ideas on what could have done this. I haven't done anything different in the take in the past few months. just so strange.....

:imsorry: for your loss. I dont mean to be bombarding you with questions, but what type of plecos did you have? Also, what were they eating? Too much of a meaty diet can cause problems or even kill certain plecs like the Clown Pleco. What kind of a set-up did you have them in?

I have a lot of drift wood in the tank, also fed them veggies. Or they eat the left over food that my Oscars didn't eat. And they where common plecos. 2 of them where about 5 years and the last one to die was about 2 years.

Also sorry for your losses...& with more questions..
Could it have been worm infestation, do you worm them?
Are the other tank mates ok?..
Did you test the water?

Could the Oscars be belting them up?
My breeding angels belted the crap outta my 5cm bn the other week, it lasted a few weeks after, they went for it's gills, almost tore it's chewie bits out, I tried to keep it going with meds, but it lost it's fight...It was looking much better too, starting to heal well, then one morning , I noticed It's cuc was untouched & when I looked for it, it was deceased..

sorry they died.
coulds be many things, if 2 die at once it is more likely to be the water than say a tumour, I lost several large plecs overnight once becasue it was a very warm night and one of my venturi was b;lockes and the plants had grown a lot and i had not trimmed them, so during the night the oxygen level dropped.
maybe if you tell us more about your set up we can suggest ideas?
how big is the tank and how often do you change water? temp? etc?

No the other fish didnt even bother the plecos at all.
Well I have the tank in my garage and its starting to get cold out, so I had to turn the water heater up that the only change I made to the tank in a few months. Could a water temp have killed them like that? I also clean the tank at least once a week.

can you remeber what the temp was and what you have changed it to? i doubt if it is the cause but something must be, maybe some food, or dead fish rotted and sudden increase in ammonia or something?

It was around 60 degrees and I put it up to around 80. But whenever I clean the tank out this is usually the same situation. I just don't think that this is what killed them. Whenever I would feed my other fish the plecos would go to the top of the tank and eat it, the food is self where small little balls could the have not digested it if they ate to much of it? I would always worry about that, like it wouldn't go down and it would clog them up....I just really want to figure out what killed them because I wanted to go get another one soon, before my other fish get to big. And I just don't want a repeat of what happened.
