Spare more recent Nitrates test kit.
After reading 40-80 nitrates in all my tanks I just did water changes on and still reading that after half the day of more water changes, I finally dug out a new nitrate test kit. Nitrates all 5 lol.

Bascily one of every thing I have and one extra.
each pump, heater, filter, lamp, sponge, media, med and R/O unit has a spare part and a backup part ready to go. the cost is quite high but then so is the cost of losing a tank full of fry and the adults.
I work on the therory that when it stuffs up so will every outher item of the same age.
Heaters are replaced every 2 years filter sponges are chucked out after a year. A spaer filter of each type I use is ready to go and all taps and fittings have a 25% back up

thanks Mac, wish i kept a spare filter as my 20g is still cycling on only one HOB now (and the 2 hydra-sponge filters)

Getting the nitrites down to about .15 but the amonia is still .50 and using Microbe Lift special blend and Nite out II ..but would have preferred having a replacement filter for the one i lost .

Good one
