What is this???

Im posting this for a friend who has a male pep with some kind of spur sticking out of the side of its face. Its never had this before and only in the last day or 2 has appeared. Can someone tell me what it is or how it came about.

Ive never seen anything like it before either. Its not my fish my friend said it looks hard and thinks its growing out of his face but she cant get a closer look cause she cant get him out of the cave.

Looks like it could be a broken hook. Not sure if you have noticed but when a bn defends or attacks it pushes out these hooks from the side of its cheek.

I think he has busted one of his spikes..
