what stones?

i want to get some natural stones for my aquarium, but no lfs has what i want. i havee some in the garden and was wondering would they be safe if cleaned and checked for limestone? also i have some builders slate, would that be safe? thanks

I use flint stones from garden and quartz from beach, also slate from a roof.
as long as boiled to kill any bacteria etc and have no lime (do vinegar test), should be fine.
