What time do they feed?

Hello. I have recently started to buy some L numbered plecos in the last few months or so and I was curious, do all or most L numbered plecos prefer to eat at night or when it is dark or is it only a select few?

Would really appreciate the help as I am still a beginner with these type of fish.

Thankyou.

Hello Luke,

Most of them are dawn and or dusk feeders. I usually feed my dithers small amount of flakes in the morning and drop in the vegies for the Ls, then in the evening, just after lights out feed brine shrimp and or pellets, depending on the Ls you have. Others Ls when I feed them late afternoon they also come out and feed. It is difficult but keep an eye out for their bellies etc.cheers jk

IME it depends on the fish really. My common and gold spots are heavy eaters and not shy at all so it matters little what time I feed them. My Green Phantom on the other hand rarely if ever ventures out during the day so him I feed at lights out time.

Hi, I feed several time a day generally (except when on hol then they get once a day only)
and some will come out and feed, especially younger ones.

I usually feed mine at night but I see them both out during the day looking for food and eating the algae but I have started feeding a bit during the day since they seem hungry.

Hey guys I just thought I would give a bit of an update how my L270, L333 and L134 plecos are going in my 4 footer. The L270s and L333 are still quite hard to differentiate at the moment (for me anyways) and they are still pretty hard to find during the day, but when it gets closer to feeding time and lights out they seem to be a bit more confident. They like to eat the NLS wafers and the hikari algae discs and they don't mind a little chomp on some zuccini once a week or so too.

I actually lost one of my 5 small plecos a week or so ago which was pretty disappointing, and I'm not really sure what caused it either as I didn't find the body until recently. It was either one of my 3 L270s or my one L333 but I couldn't be 100% sure as the body was a bit decomposed.

Anyways that's pretty much how they are going at the moment. They seem to be growing quite a bit in size from when I bought them at 3cm or so which is pleasing :) Any tips from you guys on what I can do to help bring them out into the open a bit more would be greatly appreciated but maybe I'll just have to be patient and wait until they get a bit more size, and with that some more confidence.

Cheers

Luke

I think this is true of most Hypans, I never ever see mine during the day.
