Hey all,
I was just wondering what other people put on the bottom of their fish tanks, ie small/large rocks, sand, nothing etc??
If you do what depth do you have in the tank??

I have white rocks small, about 1cm deep to about 2cm depending on the fish, they like to move them around alot. they dig out holes and stuff..

I have sand about 1/2" deep with a 1mtr piece of bogwood on it. Some terracotta pots cut in half behind the wood and a few small plastic pipes with sand glued on them.

Hi all,
Silica sand, 2 different grades (one coarse filter sand, one finer), and then just let the current sort it. Any bare spots caused by the flow I put a cobble of rounded cobbles, and at the spot where I don't have any flow and the organic debris collects I put a small square of slate, and I syphon the waste from it. I always have a sponge on the intake, so I'm not bothered about sand getting in the filter. I have both plants and MTS, so I have a deeper sand bed 3 - 4cm deep.

I like a lot of wood and caves, and I'm not too bothered if I don't see the fish very often.

cheers Darrel

Thanks for the responses I am interested in how others have their tanks set up.
I was talking to the owner of a shop in town and was told I had too much gravel in my tank and said I was going to have problems with the fish. But so far I have had very few fish die. actually only have lost 2 in the last 3 years or so. so I thought that was pretty good.. (other than the fish I lost when my cat decided to go fishing) but that wasnt the gravel or rocks lol

hi, in 54g I have 1" of gravel, 3 granite caves, med size rocks, wood and a few silk plants for color and hidey places for the dither fish. In 30g, I have 1'' gravel , small and large stones, some small slate , wood and a few silk plants. In the 20g , I am getting it ready to use as q-tank, so almost bare bottom, working on getting all the gravel out, a few rocks and a few silk plants for the dither fish in there atm.

My pleco tanks have Eco-Complete in them. With some plants, rocks and enough caves for the male plecos.
