My L134 spawn in the rectangular slate caves I made them but they don't have access to any others so not sure if its what they prefer :dk:

I have tube, slate caves and bogwood holes.

All mine cave in the slate caves and somtimes for a bolt hole use the tubes. Out of the 8 of them 6 use the same slate caves all the time, the other 2 swap and change.

I have found it is different for different Sp
I have some L066 well that is what they were sold as
I placed slate caves in the tank no jot
I removed the slate caves and put some oak caves in before they had sunk (About 10 days) they fish were in them.
it also depends on cave shape more that material.
The tighter the more a fish will use a cave.

I offer mine a choice. i find all types get used, but on average there is most interest in home made clay ones (prob cos a bit tighter), then round oak ones, then square slate ones.the breeding hypans, L46 and l270, both chose clay, Claro BNs chose clay also. gold stripes LDA01 have used wood and but once used slate, BNs using wood and slate.
134 not bred yet but rest in both clay and wood caves and occasionally in slate.

b/n definitely prefer wood caves if available...

but most plecs prefer a nice fitting cave... meaning when they go in their dorsal touches the roof and their pec fins touch the sides...

we all like a tight fit dont we!!! lol... :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:
